1. What's a Satsuma?
A Satsuma is part of the Mandarin family. It has thin skin that peels off easily, and the fruit is sectionalized like any other Mandarin. It is classified as "semi-seedless," though most Satsumas will not have a single seed. They begin sweetening while they are still light green and reach their peak sweetness when they are fully orange. Satsumas are by far our most popular fruit.

2. What varieties of citrus does L'Hoste Citrus sell?
L'Hoste Citrus sells the following Organic citrus: Satsumas, Navel Oranges, Louisiana Sweet Oranges, Pink "Ruby Red" Grapefruit, Purple "Red Flame" Grapefruit, Meyer Lemons, Sweet Round Kumquats, Sour Oblong Kumquats, Tangelos, Mandarins.

3. What's a Kumquat?
Kumquats are tiny citrus fruit with edible skin. There are two main types: Sweet Round and Sour Oblong. Both types have seeds. L'Hoste Citrus sells both Sweet and Sour Kumquats, though even the Sweet type is very tangy. Because the skin has such a great flavor, Kumquats are often used in many recipes and marmalades.

4. Why don't you ship every variety that you sell?
Some varieties, such as our Mandarins, have a very short season, which makes the shipping window very small.

5. Do you guarantee arrival dates of shipping boxes?
No we cannot. This year we will primarily use UPS for shipping. If you are shipping our citrus as a gift for the Holiday Season, we suggest shipping early to avoid the rush.

6. Is all of your shipped fruit Organic?
Absolutely YES!  Certification # 97-002.

7. What markets do you attend in Louisiana?
In New Orleans, we attend both the Uptown and Downtown Crecent City Farmer's Markets (http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/).
In Baton Rouge, we attend the Red Stick Farmer's Market.

8. Do you ship outside of the 48 states?
Yes, but not part of our "free shipping" program.  We have shipped to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico.  However, citrus is perishable, which makes it quite difficult to travel such long distances.  If you would like to ship outside of the 48 contiguous states, email us at shippingdepartment@lhostecitrus.com for a quote.  Keep in mind that it can get very expensive because the shipping travel time needs to be around 5 days.
